1. Short Summary

CleanWrite (the “Extension”) helps clean and rewrite text on web pages. We value your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can manage it.

2. What data we collect and why

A. Data we do NOT collect

We do not automatically record your visited pages, passwords, credit card numbers, or local files.

We do not sell user data or use it for personalized advertising.

B. Data we may process (and why)

Text selected by you (when you choose a cleaning or AI action): we process it to return the cleaned/rewritten version.

Where it is processed: locally in the browser (basic cleaning) and/or on third-party servers (when you use an AI action).

Why: to perform the visible function of cleaning, rewriting, or summarizing the text you selected.

Minimal technical data (anonymous errors / optional telemetry): only if you agree to send telemetry; used for debugging and product improvement.

Browser local storage: We store the last processed text (latestText) in chrome.storage.local to display it in the popup.

Clipboard: the extension offers to automatically copy the processed text to the clipboard after processing (e.g., for a fast workflow).

3. Sending data to third parties / AI services

When you use an AI command (e.g., “Professional Rewrite”), the selected text is sent to the AI provider: Groq, to generate the response.

Providers: Groq: https://groq.com/privacy-policy.

What we share: only the text you selected and the minimal request/prompt. We do not share persistent identifiers or cookies.

Retention: Refer to the provider’s policy (Groq: https://groq.com/privacy-policy).

Recommendation: if you use third parties, make sure to read their data policy and note whether they retain prompts/responses.

4. How we use and protect your data

Use: to provide the functionality of the extension (cleaning/rewriting). Also to improve the service if you have opted into telemetry.

Security: API calls use HTTPS/TLS. We do not store text on our own servers unless you explicitly state otherwise.

Access: text sent to the AI provider may be processed by that provider (read their policy).

5. User options / control

Do not send to AI: you can choose not to use AI features. Basic cleaning features run locally.

Delete local data: you can delete latestText from the popup (“Delete local history” button) and/or uninstall the extension.

6. Data sharing

We do not share data with third parties except: (a) AI providers who process text at your request. We do not sell data to third parties or use it for advertising.

7. Minors

Not intended for children.

8. International transfers

Data sent to providers may be processed outside your jurisdiction. If you are in the EU, appropriate legal mechanisms apply (for example, Standard Contractual Clauses) as applicable.

9. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when necessary and will show the date of the latest update.
